Often in life, people need a way of finding short-term rentals. Living on your own is an exciting prospect, but it can be difficult if you don't know what to expect. This ranges from extended getaway rental, moving for a temporary amount of time for work, or even just testing out independence before moving away from their parents house and into adulthood with responsibility. Whatever the reason, short-term rentals are a good way to find what you need in an apartment. You may be wondering how to find the best temporary place for you. It can seem like there are an infinite number of options, but we’ve created a list with some helpful tips.
What are Short-Term Rentals?
Before you decide where you want to rent, you need to understand what a short-term rental actually is. Short-term rentals are typically apartments or rooms that are rented for a period of 30 days or less. Sometimes these rentals can be furnished, and other times they may not. It just depends on the property and what the landlord is willing to offer.
There are also different types of short-term rentals. For example, co-living homes can act as type of temporary accommodation. Co-livings are homes with multiple bedrooms that are rented out to individuals or groups. Co-living spaces offer a sense of community and usually come furnished, which can be great for people who are moving to a new city.
Short-term rentals can also include vacation rentals, which are properties that are rented out for a short period of time, typically a week or two. These rentals can be found all over the world and are a great way to explore a new city or country.
Why should you consider staying in a short-term rental?
There are many reasons that you should consider staying in a short-term rental. Short-term rentals are often more affordable than long term leases. Moreover, it's sometimes cheaper to pay by the month rather than signing a lease on a place you're unsure of.
This flexibility makes temporary rentals an especially great option for students who are studying away from home, temporary professionals on assignment, or anyone who wants to live in a new city for a short time. Short-term rentals are also the perfect option for the long-term traveler or digital nomad who move from city to city after a while.
People who are looking for a place to live might need temporary housing while they search. Short-term rentals can also be a great way to find your ideal home. If you're unsure of where you want to live, or if you're waiting for your current lease to end, a short-term rental can be a great way to bridge that gap.
How Do You Find Short-Term Rentals?
Now that you know some of the benefits of short-term rentals, you're probably wondering how you can find them. Short-term rentals can be found in a variety of ways.
One way to find short-term rentals is through an online search engine. There are many websites that allow you to search for apartments, co-living houses, or rooms that are for rent for a short period of time. These sites are a great way to find furnished or unfurnished rentals in your area.
Another way to find short-term rentals is through word of mouth. Ask your friends if they know anyone who is renting out a room or an apartment for a short period of time. You can also check out our testimonials to see if Tribe fits your temporary housing needs.
What should I keep in mind when looking at short-term rentals?
When you're looking for a short-term rental, it's important to keep in mind what you'll need. Short term rentals are great for people who have an indefinite stay in the city they're moving to, but if you're only staying for a month or two, there are certain features that might be helpful to consider. Here are some things to think about:
- Location: Short-term rentals can be found all over the world, but if you're looking for something specific, like close to your office or close to public transportation, make sure to narrow your search down.
Tribe is located in the SoMa area of San Francisco, making it a central location close to many things. We have public transport near the house as well as the FiDi and many grocery stores.
- Furnished or Unfurnished: If you're not moving with a lot of furniture or belongings, a furnished rental can be a great option. On the other hand, if you already have furniture to bring with you, make sure to look for rentals that don't include furniture.
Tribe is a fully furnished co-living house. Not only do we have beds in all of our rooms, but we also count with a gym and an industrial kitchen. If you're a digital nomad looking for short-term rentals, we also count with a fully functional co-working area.
- Size: Short-term rentals can come in all shapes and sizes. If you're looking for a studio apartment or a room to share, make sure to specify that in your search.
Tribe offers rooms for rent in a co-living house. We have different room types including private rooms as well as double and triple occupancy rooms.
Are short-term rentals legit?
Many local governments have rules and regulations for short term rental properties. Short-term rentals through online search engines or websites like Airbnb are generally considered legal, but always check with your local government to make sure.
However, we recommend you keep these things in mind when looking at renting a temporary accommodation:
Consider only the listings with pictures of the inside and outside of the property.
You likely wouldn’t buy a house without seeing pictures of it. So before renting an apartment or room for your stay in town make sure to check these things:
The lighting should be natural light as much as possible (not all lit up at night). Make certain there are no dark patches where vegetation grows because this might indicate mold issues And finally ask any owners if they have taken new photos recently - many times they will update them while still being under contract.
Ask the owner or property manager any and all questions you may have.
If you're looking for a short-term rental, it's important to be able to ask questions about the property or home. Landlords are often eager to share their properties with renters and will appreciate that you want as much information before making a decision. However, if someone shows unwillingness or inability in answering your questions then this may not be the right fit for both parties involved so proceed carefully!
Do your research!
When you find a listing for a short-term rental that looks promising, be sure to read through the reviews from people who have stayed at the property. People are generally honest in their reviews and this can give you a good idea of what to expect.
Don't pay before you sign.
It’s important to get a written rental contract before sending any money. This protects you from working with sketchy landlords or property owners, and also helps avoid the risk of fraud in case something goes wrong on both ends.
When paying opt for a secure option and make sure to talk to the owner and understand what it is before sending any money. Avoid giving a payment in check or cash and opt for paying with card. Tribe has a secure automated internal payment system and we will never ask you for cash or a check!
Most importantly, always listen to your gut before you embark in any decision.
Tribe is a fully licensed and legal company. We abide by all the regulations set by the city of San Francisco. If you're looking for a short-term rental in the Bay Area, Tribe is a perfect fit.
Why co-living is a great short-term renting option.
If you're looking for a social environment, co-living is the perfect option. Short-term rentals can be lonely, and it's nice to come home to a space where you can chat with your roommates about your day.
At Tribe we have a community manager who is always organizing events and activities for our residents. This is a great way to meet people and make new friends.
Our house is also fully furnished which means you will only need to bring the things that matter. We also provide high-speed internet, all utilities (water, electricity & gas) and weekly housekeeping. Tribe's short-term rentals are designed to make your stay as easy and comfortable as possible.
So if Tribe sounds like the short-term rental you're looking for be sure to apply and schedule an interview! Not fully convinced yet? You can see our member testimonials here.
